Welcome to the first e-newsletter from the UCF College of Medicine. I will be sending periodic updates on the progress we are making at the college, and I hope you will take a few minutes to read about these exciting developments.
 
Here are a few important updates I want to share with you.
 
Medical School Accreditation Process
  • The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) will visit in December and review the entire plan for the medical school. In preparation a mock site visit was planned and completed in November.
Facilities
  • UCF Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, College of Medicine broke ground at Lake Nona in May 2007. See the building progress on the Web cam at www.med.ucf.edu.
  • Groundbreaking for the College of Medicine was held in October 2007
Faculty and Staff
  • The College of Medicine has hired 10 full-time faculty and 16 full-time staff members as of November 15, 2007. In addition, there are 34 full-time faculty and 19 full-time staff members in the college's Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences.
Scholarships
  • Working toward our goal of 40
  • Special thanks to Dean, Mead, Egerton, Bloodworth, Capouano & Bozarth, PA, for our first endowed scholarship

More than 500 Central Florida leaders gathered for the first time at the future home of the UCF College of Medicine and Burnham Institute for Medical Research in October 2007. Click here for full story.
Med School’s Current Location
A refurbished 16,000-square foot office space in the Central Florida Research Park adjacent to UCF provides academic space for the College of Medicine until facilities at Lake Nona are completed. Click here for full story.

Medical Student Scholarships
According to the American Association of Medical Colleges, UCF is the first U.S. school of medicine to create a program to provide full scholarships to the inaugural class. Click here for full story.
